By: Cheri Leader Center Co-Manager

Happy Back to School! May this new school year be filled with learning, growth, and positive experiences. Whether you’re a student, teacher, or parent, here’s to a fresh start and a successful academic year.

Speaking of “Fresh Starts”- the Crofton Senior Center is embarking on a new chapter. After celebrating 50 years of service to the community, the Center is keeping the vision alive for those few who, 50 years ago, dreamed of a place for folks to gather and socialize in the heart of Crofton. I am happy to be a part of three generations who have served in different capacities at the Crofton Senior Center. My grandparents, Allen and Vera Wakeley  were part of the core group in the early stages of the Crofton Senior Center and were members of the Board, my mother, Pat Wakeley currently serves as treasurer of the Senior Center Board and volunteers in various capacities, and I am presently filling the role of co-manager at the Senior Center. The importance of this venue for Crofton community residents of all ages to gather for food, fellowship, and fun is a priceless treasure. The Senior Center is excited to move into the future with the help and support of the community.

We want to thank those who have supported the Crofton Senior Center with donations and memorials throughout the past 50 years, as well as those who have stepped up to volunteer by answering the phone, sitting at the desk, taking reservations, and delivering meals.

As the Center moves forward into the future, we applaud those who have given and who continue to give of their time serving in different capacities to help the Center run smoothly. The Senior Center would not be able to function without our wonderful volunteers.  Please consider volunteering some of your time to help in your local community by sharing your gifts and talents. The Center needs willing volunteers as we transition with the changes taking place this month.
